how do I make a fleece tie quilt, not the 2 sided blanket but the quilt w/ tied squares?
I have made the fleece tie blankets before but I saw a magazine that was selling the kits to make a fleece tie quilt and I wanted to know how to make them myself. I assume you would need squares around 16-18 inches and then tie them together but I don’t know how to go about doing that or how much fabric I would need to purchase etc. any help would be appreciated. thanks

The fringe looks like it is about 2 1/2 long.
1/2 yard of fleece would turn out about 3, 18″ squares.
Check the width of the fleece when buying as it can differ, company to company.

I want to learn how to make a quilt?
My sister loves quilts (not like plain checkered ones) and I was hoping to be able to give one to her for Christmas. I’ve never made a quilt, but I would like to make it myself.
Where can I learn to make a quilt? I’ve heard of kits, but would I be able to pick out the design and fabric?
Plus I was hoping not to spend a ton of money, I dont know how much something like this would cost though.
(I’m pretty sure my mom has a sewing machine)

I have used a sewing machine before, maybe a little more than a year ago. I made a few pillows, some were checkered, a Christmas Stocking, and a hat. So I do have a little bit of experience.
If at all possible, take a quilting class. Many quilt shops and even community colleges offer beginner quilting classes. Books are great, but nothing compares to having a person right there, showing you how and explaining why.
If a class isn’t possible, there are some basic books that can get you started. My favorite is “Start Quilting with Alex Anderson.” It has all the basics, and is relatively inexpensive.
There are also websites and blogs that can give you the necessary info. Oh, Fransson! has a wonderful quilt-along that is full of details. I think she provides everything a beginner needs to start quilting. You can find the start of the quilt-along here:

Cost depends on a lot of things. The size of the quilt makes a big difference, of course, but so does you fabric. You can buy cheap fabric at $2 a yard, or you can get “quilt shop” fabric at $9 a yard. The more expensive stuff is generally better quality, but if you’re patient, watch for deals, and a fairly flexible in your choices you can get really nice fabric for $4 a yard or less. Remember, you need fabric for the backing, too. If you make a large quilt, consider buying “wide back” fabric. It’s generally 90″ – 112″ wide, and it’s cheaper in the long run than buying regular 42″ wide fabric and piecing it.
Your next expense is batting, and this varies widely, too. Figure around $4 – $10 per yard. Watch for sales, again, because it’s often as much as 50% off. Decide what kind of batting you want – don’t just buy the cheapest available or you may regret it.
Bottom line – for a bed quilt (say, a full size) you can plan on spending at least $50, and probably closer to $75. If you’re making a smaller lap size quilt, plan on $35 to $50.
