Stamped Cross Stitch Kits? ?
Ok for those of you who are really good at this or have a really keen sense on what’s pretty, you should help. 
I need help finding a pretty kit for stamped cross stitching. I can’t do counted. I always mess up. But I have a contest coming up on November 24 so I need something that will catch the eye of the judges. I did flowers last year. So I’d perfer something where the focus isn’t flowers. But there could be flowers. Just not the main thing… does that make sense?
Quick! Look up the website addresses for Annie’s Attic and Mary Maxim. They both sell needlework projects, both individual supplies and kits. Their stock is highly similar, but each has a few things the other does not. They have all sorts of needlework, including stamped cross-stitch. I think they’re your best bet. Their prices are reasonable, too.

Choosing Centers for Fabric Flowers
Fabric flower centers. Fabric flowers have recently grown in popularity. The reason for this may be a number of things. They are fairly easy to make if you have the right instructions. The type of flowers can be a simple and basic design that requires only a few pieces of fabric to complex creations that can use more than ten pieces of fabric.
There are a couple of different things that really contribute to the appearance of the flower. The color of the fabric is obviously the most important factor. Next is the center that you use for your flower. There are so many different things that you can use as a center piece. There are some specific things that you should look for when choosing the centerpiece of your fabric flower.
- The centerpiece you use should cover any stitching that there may be in the middle.
- If an item can not cover the stitches, you can use more of the same item to cover it, or combine a few different pieces to do the job.
- It should not be greater than the smallest piece of fabric that is used in the flower.
- You must be able to glue or stitch the chosen center in place.
Those are the primary criteria the center piece should meet. In most cases, people use buttons covered in fabric or as-is. There are many different styles and models you can use with just buttons so the list goes on and on so I won’t try to list them all here.
Some of the most popular centers, you will notice, are different colored beads, pearls and rhinestones. Also shells, fabric centers and almost anything else that meets the criteria can be used.
When you select the right center, the color and design should complement your flower. The purpose of the flower should also be taken into consideration. If you want a funky type of flower you can even use a bottle cap. But if you are looking for a more elegant look, then a crystal or fabric embellishment will clearly be a better choice.
Often, you do not even need to go to the store to find the center right of use. There are many things around the home that you can use. Do you have broken costume jewelry anywhere? What about the junk drawer? If you really thought about it, you would be surprised at all the options you have at your disposal to make the perfect and unique fabric flower for a headband or clip. It can be great fun to come up with different ideas to make your flowers look different.

Working French Knots in Counted Cross Stitch?
I have a Thomas Kinkade kit that I am currently working on. All of the flowers are supposed to be french knots. Do I work the french knots in the middle of the designated square or do I work a knot in each of the 4 holes on the pattern? I don’t want to have the white aida cloth showing through the floss.
I’d work the French knots in the way that gave the best coverage, one knot to an indicated square, in the absence of specific directions. The Kinkade kits are usually on 14-count fabric, which would require a good-sized French knot. I would look for an instruction that tells you how many threads to use and how many “loops” to do. If there is not one, I would experiment with the number of threads and the number of loops until I got a look I liked. JMO.
